Style Spotter: Marie Kirgotty

Marie Kirgotty, a freshman political science major, has a global style inspired by the time she spent living in Kenya, Amsterdam, and New York. Her mastery of the all-black edgy look is showcased in her hand-crafted jewelry, including colorful beaded bracelets that took her three weeks to make and bright blue earrings made by her sister. “Accessories are awesome – they complete the whole outfit,” she said with a pair of tinted sunglasses in hand.
According to Kirgotty, her style changes depending on her mood rather than current trends. “If I follow a trend, like the whole crop top thing, I try to switch it up so it can be personalized,” she said. Her fringed crop top and sweater, rocker-chic leather pants, and paint-splattered combat boots are from Necessary Clothing of New York, and her necklace is from Forever 21.
Kirgotty, who enjoys painting and writing poetry, likes her style to reflect her creativity and originality. Her fashion sense is heavily influenced by her neo-soul rock band, Yellow Light Machine, as well as singer Lauryn Hill, whose ability to embody different eras she admires.
