Someone made a series of hang-up calls to 911 from a payphone near U-Drive North. When the Department of Public Safety went to investigate the area, nobody was there.

An emergency alarm in the Campus Center Upper Level went off, but the officers who responded could not find anybody in the area.

Two bombs exploded at the Boston Marathon finish line, killing three. A few minutes later, a large fire erupted at the JFK Library. Campus and the road into campus closed so that Secret Service could investigate any potential connection between the bombing and the fire.

Campus remained closed while federal law enforcement investigated the fire at the JFK Library.

The investigation at the library was completed, and campus re-opened.

A woman reported a harassing voice message on her phone.

A caller reported a suspicious character in the Healey Library on the 6th floor. The suspicious character was supposedly a balding older white man with a ponytail. The caller refused to stay on the phone while waiting for officers to arrive and hung up on the dispatcher. Three attempts to call back were unsuccessful. When the Department of Public Safety arrived on the scene, no man matching the description provided was present.

A woman in the Healey Library felt faint and dizzy. She refused an ambulance and went to Health Services.

Someone left a grey and black duffel bag unattended on the 4th floor of the Science Building. Officers brought the bag to the station.

A man paced back and forth in front of an office window until the woman working in the office called the Department of Public Safety. The man turned out to be an active student who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder.

A woman working in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences reported a suspicious box located outside her window. The box was empty.

Brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokar Tsarnaev, suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing, killed an MIT police officer and hijacked a car while holding the driver at gunpoint. The brothers then engaged in a shoot-out with police in Watertown. Tamerlan died, and Dzhokar escaped.

The governor announced suspension of MBTA service and suspension of cab service. Citizens in Watertown, Waltham, Belmont, Newton, Allston-Brighton and Cambridge were encouraged to shelter in place while law enforcement agencies continued the hunt for Dzhokar Tsarnaev. UMass Boston, along with several other university campuses in the Boston area, was closed.

A student tried to get into UMass Boston despite the fact that the campus had been closed. He was carrying an empty bag. Officers searched his locker and arrested him for malicious destruction of property and several counts of larceny.

Tsarnaev was captured in Watertown, MBTA service resumed, and college campuses in the Boston area re-opened.
4/20/2013 2:55 p.m.
Three or four young men were skateboarding in the plaza. A staff member in the Clark Athletic Center was concerned that the skateboarders might hurt themselves and called police. The skateboarders left before officers arrived.
