Sunday is the day of the big game. People will be cramming into bars and living rooms to yell and cheer for some of the most athletic men in the world to smash into each other. I know it’s great but believe it or not some people might not actually want to watch the game. So, I scoured the internet, looked through the TV menu, stole from similar articles with this same topic, and asked people what to do besides watch the game.
Let us start with what’s on television besides the game since it’s Sunday, and I think most people like to sit around and relax. VH-1, Spike, Comedy Central, and AMC all have marathons. “Cops” is on Spike, “Tosh.O” is on Comedy Central, and “The Walking Dead” will be on AMC. “Saturday Night Live” marathons will be playing on VH-1. Here’s a breakdown of what SNL episodes are playing during the game; for all you Pats fans still too distraught to watch the Super Bowl, Tom Brady hosts in an old episode of SNL from 6-7 p.m., at 7-8 p.m. is soon-to-be exported Justin Bieber (or is it Miley Cyrus in drag?), 8-9 p.m. is Jennifer Lawrence, 9-10 p.m. is Adam Levine with Kendrick Lamar, and 10-11 p.m. is Anne Hathaway and Rihanna.
Of course there is “Puppy Bowl X” on Animal Planet and on the Hallmark Channel will be the “Kitty Bowl.” FX will be showing the “Twilight” saga and the Biochannel at 8 p.m. is airing “Caddyshack: The Inside Story,” which looks at the making of the comedy classic. There is also the riveting “Weather Bowl 2014 Halftime Show” playing on the Weather Channel at 8 p.m. It’s about meteorologist bragging about who was correct about what the weather during the game was going to be. Let me save you time and tell you who was right: none of them.
Now if you’re actually looking to do something besides sit in front of the boob tube, good for you. It’s a great day to go out and do things because let’s face it, most people are watching pig skin try to go 100 yards for a touchdown. So, go out for a drive; there will be no traffic. Hit the gym — you won’t have to wait to jump on a machine or worry about the gallons of sweat that wasn’t wiped off. Go shopping; no lines. Eat at a restaurant because you’ll get the best service you’ll ever have. Catch a flick at the theaters as you just may have the whole theater to yourself.
Looking for a specific event? You can check out Huntington Theatre Company’s “Breaking Ground Festival,” which highlights local playwrights and national writers in partnership with the theater.
You could also run for a good cause. In Cambridge there is the “Super Sunday Run Against Cancer.” It starts at 10 a.m., so technically (unless you’re really slow) you’ll still have time to catch the game. But I’m guessing after running a 5k, you’ll be passing out around the time the game starts.
If you didn’t like any of my recommendations on what to do besides watching the game, maybe this next one will float your boat. One person suggested planning epic Valentine’s Day festivities or anti-Valentine’s Day festivities, like making voodoo dolls of exes and tossing them in a bonfire, then running naked down the harborwalk. That truly would be super.
