From the brilliant minds that brought you the critically acclaimed UMB original “Wit or Without You” comes “Hedda,” a new play set to run from October 13th to the 16th at the McCormack Theater. “Hedda” is an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s original play “Hedda Gabbler.” Written at the turn of the century, it appeared on Broadway in 1902. Lucy Kirkwood developed the contemporary version in 2009. Carrie Ann Quinn, the director, summarized the plot. “It’s about a women who has had a very sordid past. She was involved with a man in high school and another in college and is currently married to a man she does not love. Her marriage quickly followed her father’s death and she is still very much in mourning for her loss. On top of this, she may or may not be pregnant. She feels trapped by her past and terrified of the future.” Quinn is confident that students will enjoy the play. “It relates to students because it’s about this struggle to know what you want to do with your life and who you want to spend it with. I think those questions apply to everyone,” she said. The over-arching themes in the play are love, death, suffocating boredom, and dissatisfaction with everyday life. “It’s very edgy, a shade sexy, and it offers a voyeuristic look into people’s private lives without the risk of jail time,” said Quinn. “Hedda” will be showing at the Mc- Cormack Theater on Wednesday, October 13th, at 7 p.m., Thursday, October 14th, at 7 p.m., Thursday, October 15th, at 8 p.m., and Friday, October 16th at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
