Should the Patriots cut Chad Ochocinco?
YES – Jon Mael
This guy sucks. When Ochocinco came in, the Twitterverse lit up with excitement, and all of Pats nation were touting his abilities, and saying that, “Belichick can turn anyone around, you’ll see, he’ll be great.” Well, to give Chad credit, he hasn’t been the annoying diva that he’s been for the majority of his career, but apparently when he loses the diva, he also loses his talent. Ocho still doesn’t have a grasp on the offense, and has been a well-paid spectator in the early part of the season. After our week one win over Miami, he said, “I’m in awe of just watching this greatness,” in reference to our offense. Why don’t you get in there and be a part of it, Chad? At the rate he’s going, he should pay us for a field-side seat!
When he does get in the game, he messes up his fair share. He dropped that for-sure touchdown in the fourth quarter against Buffalo that could have put an extra 1:30 on the clock and given the Pats a chance to win, but instead Wes Welker had to take it in on third down instead of first. Ocho still hasn’t been put in as a full starter yet, and he doesn’t seem to have an understanding of the Patriot way. He still doesn’t work as hard as a Pat needs to in order to have success. Hopefully he learns it or he’ll be packing his bags for the CFL.
NO – Haley Van Orman
Ochocinco is a huge part of the Pats this year. We haven’t even seen what the guy can do yet and we are already questioning him and his abilities? He’s just getting warmed up. Ochocinco was a huge success even with the sucky Cincinnati Bengals and the declining Carson Palmer. Just imagine what a beast he will be with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Amazing coach, amazing QB; this combo for Ochocinco equals a very successful season. Another good reason Ochocinco will be a huge success for the Pats this year is it will help open up other offensive threats like Wes Welker and Dion Branch.
Why would we cut a player with 11,000 receiving yards and 66 touchdowns at the age of 33 who obviously has a lot of football left in him? We have a strong core of young talent at WR who could learn a lot from studying Ocho. Matthew Slater and Julian Edelman have great futures with the Pats, but they have a lot to learn and Ochocinco could be the mentor that they’ve desperately needed. With all due respect to Randy Moss, I feel like Chad is bringing a more mature and steady presence to the Pats and will therefore bring a good locker room presence to the team that they haven’t had at WR since Troy Brown. Cutting Ocho would be an awful mistake for the Pats to make. He still has some great production left in him, not to mention great looks to go with it.
