The Graduate Student Assembly Office will be shifting over to the new campus center as soon as we are given the go-ahead by the Department of Capital Asset Management. Our new office will be located in room 3404.
Member Update
The Graduate Student Assembly would like to welcome our newest member Tina Jannoun of the Sociology Department. Any graduate student interested in joining the GSA is encouraged to attend our next meeting on February 19 at 3 pm in the Wheatley Student Lounge.

Dissertation Defense
Ph.D. candidate Laney Bruner-Canhoto will be defending her dissertation titles, Environmental Strategies Among People Growing Older with Multiple Sclerosis: Experiences, Implications, and Lessons. The event will be held in the Sociology Conference Room, Wheatley Building, 4th Floor, Room 22. Laney’s Committee members include: Francis G. Caro, Ph.D., Gerontology, Jan Mutchler Ph.D., Gerontology, Alison Gottlieb, Ph.D., Gerontology, Marcia J. Scherer, Ph.D., University of Rochester. The public is invited to attend.
Poster Display at the Campus Center Opening Gala
The Graduate Student Assembly has arranged for UMB graduate students to display their research posters at the Campus Center Opening Fundraising Gala on April 26. This is an excellent opportunity for our graduate community to proudly display our work to Boston’s community leaders.
Posters should follow a traditional format that includes a short abstract, introduction, literature review, methodology, results, discussion and references. Posters presented at other professional conferences will be accepted. Please confirm your submission to the GSA via email at [email protected].
Programs and Grants
The Graduate Student Assembly provides programs and services pertaining to our mission of enhancing the academic and professional development of our graduate student community here at UMass Boston. Programs include hosting workshops during the annual Graduate Academic Conference and providing a Distinguished Speaker Series during spring semester. The GSA also provides several funding opportunities for graduate students including the Spayne and Bollinger grants to support Master’s and Doctoral research, Professional Development Grants to provide opportunities to attend academic conferences, and Educational Support Grants to recognize academic achievement.
