Men’s Hockey
2-1-1 Overall (1-1-1 ECAC East)
After a weekend off, the Men’s hockey team got back to business on Nov. 22 when they traveled to Rutland, Vt. to take on conference rival Castleton State. Trailing 1-0 in the first, Peter MacIntyre tied the game with his third goal of the season at 13:56. Mid-way through the second, with the Beacons once again trailing by one, Dan Cornell notched his first goal in a UMass Boston uniform to knot things up at 2. Late in the same period, with Castleton State up 3-2, the resilient Beacons tied things up again, with MacIntyre scoring his second goal of the game with less than a minute left in the period. UMass Boston was able to pull ahead as Jeremy Finger popped in a a power-play goal to put them 4-3 with 17:32 left to play. However, Castleton State was able to tie the game with 13:49 left. The teams traded chances throughout the rest of the third and overtime, but were unable to break the tie, and the game ended in a draw. The guys also played to a draw the next day at Skidmore, this time 3-3. The Beacons next take the ice Thanksgiving weekend, when they travel to Manchester, N.H. to compete in the Manchester PAL/Stovepipe Tournament.
Women’s Hockey
1-4-1 (1-3 ECAC East)
The UMass Boston Women’s hockey team had a busy last couple of weeks, starting with a Nov. 12 home-opening tilt against the University of New England. With the Lady Beacons trailing 1-0 in the third, junior Angela Dandreo scored her first collegiate goal with 8:31 to play in the game. The game would end up finishing 1-1 as the Beacons picked up their first point of the new season. Junior transfer Moe Bradley made 16 saves in her first start of the year. Three days later, the team took on conference rival Manhattanville College, who came in ranked eighth in the country. Despite outshooting Manhattanville, the Lady Beacons fell 4-2. Sophomore Jenny Currie and Senior Katie Loiselle both scored their first goals of the season to provide the scoring for the Lady Beacons. However, the team was able to bounce back the following day against Nichols College, scratching out a 2-1 victory for their first win of the season. Kayla Kiernan and Sarahanne Cavolo registered the two goals for the Lady Beacons while Bradley made 21 saves to secure the win. The following week, on Nov. 22, the Beacons were shutout 1-0 by Holy Cross. Sophomore Casey Schaejbe made 20 saves on the night.
Cross-Country
The Men’s and Women’s cross-country teams concluded their seasons with a handful of runners competing at the 2013 New England Division III Regional Meet in Gorham, Maine on Nov. 16. Angelica Pizzi, the lone women’s runner, completed the 5K course in 24:47 to finish 173rd overall. Three runners from the men’s squad competed, led by Tad Delaney, who ran the 8K course in 28:02 to finish 169th overall. Jake Kerin was right behind him in 28:15 to finish 181st, and Joe Miller came in 334th with a time of 32:31. The winter track season will be starting soon so the Beacons will only have a brief reprieve before they return to action.
