Women’s Tennis
(6-10 Overall) (3-5 LEC)
The Women’s Tennis team concluded their season in impressive fashion as the Lady Beacons were able to snag the final Little East Conference playoff spot on the last day of the regular season. On Oct. 15, seniors Anitra Kloczewiak and Sam Counts were honored before their final home match against Curry College. The Lady Beacons came up short that day, falling 6-3, despite singles wins from Kloczewiak, Vicky Woytowicz, and Solveig Castelli. Four days later, the team traveled to face conference foe Plymouth State for a spot in the Little East Conference Tournament. The team was able to pull off a 6-3 win. Nuha Muntasser (who was named Little East Conference Rookie of the Week for the third straight time on Oct. 21) and Castelli picked up wins at number 2 doubles, while Kloczewiak and Sam Counts where victorious in number one doubles. Kelsey Shea and Logan Smith won at number three doubles to complete the Beacon-sweep. Kloczewiak (her program-record 22nd victory of the season), Muntasser, and Shea all won their singles matches to catapult the Lady Beacons into the playoffs for the third time in three years. In the conference tournament, the Lady Beacons came up short, 5-2, to UMass Dartmouth. Kloczewiak concluded her career with a win at number three singles while Muntasser won at number one singles. It was an all-around good year for the women’s team, who, after being picked to finish eighth in the conference, proved many people wrong by sneaking into the postseason.
Men’s Soccer
(10-6-1 Overall) (2-2-1 LEC)
The Men’s Soccer team, coming off a 4-2 win over Western Connecticut State, were unable to keep the momentum going against a decent Worcester State squad, falling 1-0 at home on Oct. 15. An early Worcester State score, and having a goal called back, doomed the Beacons. On Oct. 19, the team fell short against conference rival Keene State, 3-1. Roland Barbosa had the lone goal for the Beacons, his seventh of the year. Edmilson Barros and Lenir Lima picked up the assists. They were able to get back on track three days later against Massachusetts Maritime Academy, winning 4-0 behind two goals from Marcus Pizzetti. Alfonso Rosales picked up his third shutout of the year, while Barros and Lucas Ordosgoitia also found the back of the net.
The Beacons continue their playoff push with their final two games of their regular season against conference opponents: first a home date with Plymouth State on Oct. 26, followed by a road match at Rhode Island College on Nov. 2.
