If you were to tell me at the beginning of the season that the Boston Red Sox were set to play game one of the World Series on Wednesday, I would have probably laughed in your face. But here we are, one day away from the first pitch and they are set to face the St. Louis Cardinals for the championship. What is it about this Sox team?
Could it be our new coaching staff, led by potential manager-of-the-year John Farrell? Could it be this new team unity that has turned into a “Fear The Beard” movement? Could it be the dedication and work that the players have put in to erase the historically disgraceful 2011 collapse as well as the dreadful 2012 season? Could it be the motivation of winning for the city after the Boston Marathon bombings? Or could it just be that this is a team full of guys going out there and and having fun doing what they love?
The answer is all of the above. This Red Sox team has won over the people of this city. There is a certain magic that comes with the team and it has been there all season. They led the league in walk-off wins and continued that trend of great comebacks in the post season. It was only fitting that Victorino’s grand slam won the AL pennant. That is what this team has done all season: when their backs were against the wall they fought through and pulled it off.
Thats what championship teams are made of. If the Sox win the series, moments like Victorino’s and Ortiz’s grand slams are what will be remembered years from now. This is a team that is ready for the World Series. From worst to first, this is our year, I can feel it and I believe the entire city feels it . Go Sox!
