Susan Brightman Macchi, a University of Massachusetts Boston alumna and former Mass Media production artist, was killed alongside her daughter, Juliet N. Macchi, at a car crash on Saturday night near Plymouth, Mass.
Macchi and her daughter Juliet had been driving home from a Red Sox game when their Dodge Neon collided with a Toyota Corolla driven by State Trooper John Basler of Kingston, R.I., on Federal Furnace Road.
Macchi, 64, the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Her daughter, 23, was taken to Jordan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police reported no witnesses to the accident. Two drivers found the two vehicles in the middle of the road at 12:29 a.m. The women were trapped in the wreckage of their heavily damaged car.
Basler was found lying on the side of the road, suffering from hip and pelvic injuries. He told police he did not know what happened.
Police said the women were heading toward Carver, Mass. Basler was driving from Wareham, Mass., back to Kingston.
A State Police reconstruction team is investigating the crash. Basler, who was not on duty when he got into the crash with the Macchi family, faces charges related to drunk driving, negligent operation, and carrying a firearm while under the influence.
