Bar of the Week: The Pub in Powderhouse Square

When the cliché for Cheers “where everybody knows your name” came about, just about everybody said, “hey, that’s my neighborhood bar.” That statement couldn’t be more true at The Pub (formerly known as the Powderhouse Pub) located in Powderhouse Square in Somerville. This place is a local staple, and though it’s a bit out of the way from campus, it’s a blast to be around so many friendly people with a great atmosphere to watch a game. Multiple TVs along with local Somerville themed decor make The Pub a great sports destination.
Many patrons find multiple sources of entertainment in the establishment. The absurd number of televisions is nice. However, what is a big hit is the free foosball table. You have the option of playing as much foosball as you want as long as you eat or drink to your heart’s content.
The Pub also has a collection of high quality bar food. When you just walk in and need something to eat while waiting for your meal, you can’t go wrong with the wings. The two most popular selections are the buffalo and the especially-great honey. You just can’t go wrong with some nice bird and these tangy, flavorful wings just melt in your mouth.
As great as those wings are, the real star of the menu is the amazing steak tips. They’re simply incredible. The marinade they come in provides a combination of sweet, spicy, and tangy profiles to create a unique flavor of its own. Tender and full of flavor, they pack a punch and complement a great bar with dozens of fantastic drink options.
It’s hard to argue with The Pub’s old-fashioned atmosphere. It’s what makes it so appealing. It has an old-fashioned dive bar charm but also has its own new wave, modern attraction. You can’t go wrong with this place.
