Junhao Yu, a junior political science major, got everything he’s wearing from Buffalo Exchange in Allston and Urban Outfitters — although he tries not to shop at Urban too frequently because “it’s way too mainstream.”
He doesn’t try too hard to stay current on trends and doesn’t read fashion magazines. “I just kind of mix it up with my own sense of fashion,” he said. “If I had to describe my own style, I’d say I lead my own style … I don’t like to follow others.”
As for fashion advice for his fellow students, Yu says to stay true to your own style. He doesn’t recommend reading fashion magazines or listening to what people think you should wear. “You should wear what you feel comfortable in and what you think looks good.”
Jamie Dinh, a senior English major, got her navy striped dress and her bright yellow statement necklace from Forever 21. Her boots are from Bakers and her Kate Spade stockings are from Marshalls.
Her favorite places to shop include Club Monaco, DSW, and Francesca’s. As for a celebrity style icon, Dinh can’t get enough of Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o and her elegant taste in gowns. She also admires the styles of Korean actress Jamie Chung and Shay Mitchell from Pretty Little Liars.
Dinh uses Instagram as a way of getting new fashion ideas — she follows Boston blogger @extrapetite as a way of staying up on current trends. She describes herself as a chameleon when it comes to style because her look tends to switch up with her mood.
