Men’s Basketball
6–19 (0–14 LEC)
On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the Beacons Men’s Basketball team lost 81–71 at UMass Dartmouth. Luc Ulysse led all scorers with 19 points. On Feb. 15, the team lost at Plymouth State, 71–70 on a last-second three-pointer. Carl Joseph led the team with 19 points and eight rebounds. Three days later, the guys returned home on Feb. 18 to face Southern Maine, where they were beaten 65–63. Joseph once again led the way with 21 points and 13 rebounds. On Saturday, Feb. 22, the team dropped its regular-season finale at Western Connecticut State, 86–82. Kadeem Coulter poured in 20 points on top of 12 rebounds. The Beacons will begin LEC Tournament play at top-seeded Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Women’s Basketball
13–12 (4–10 LEC)
The University of Massachusetts Boston Women’s Basketball team dropped a 76–59 decision to UMass Dartmouth on Feb. 11. The team was led by Olivia Murphy, who had 19 points and eight rebounds. On Feb. 15, the Beacons bounced back to beat Plymouth State on the road, 64–54. Andrea Suffredini had 14 points and five rebounds to lead the way. Three nights later, the ladies fell to Southern Maine in a hard-fought 49–48 loss on Senior Night. Kirsten Morrison led the team with 18 points. On Feb. 22, the team lost its regular season finale at Western Connecticut State, 49–38. Chantel Jordan had nine points while Morrison chipped in with seven assists. The team will open LEC Tournament play with a match-up at Southern Maine on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Men’s Hockey
17–5–4 (9–5–4 ECAC East)
UMass Boston Men’s Hockey fought their way to a 4–4 tie at St. Michael’s on Feb. 14. Tyler Bishop scored twice while Albee Daley and Mike Kuhn also found the back of the net for the Beacons. The next night, the team fell 5–3 at Norwich. Stephen Buco scored twice and Kuhn scored once in the loss. On Feb. 22, the Beacons crushed the University of New England at home, 7–2 in the first round of the ECAC East Tournament. Nathan Millam scored twice while Dan Cornell, Peter MacIntyre, Travis Daniel, Frankie DeAugustine, and Daley all scored for UMass Boston. The team will now move on to the tournament semi-finals. The date, time, and opponent are yet to be determined.
Women’s Hockey
12–10–4 (7–8–1 ECAC East)
The Women’s Hockey team fell 4–3 at Plymouth State on Friday, Feb. 14. Kelsey MacIsaac, Alyssa Sullivan and Katie Loiselle all scored for the Beacons. The following day, the Beacons concluded the regular season with a 3–2 win over Southern Maine. For the second game in a row, Sullivan scored while Kiernan and Samantha Fallon also scored for UMass Boston. On Feb. 22, the team defeated Manhattanville College, 3–0 in the first round of the ECAC East Tournament. MacIsaac, Loiselle, and Kat Armstrong all scored for the Beacons while Moe Bradley made 17 saves in the shutout.
Indoor Track
The Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track teams competed at the Little East Conference/ New England Alliance track meet at Southern Maine. The women, who placed 7th, were led by Hulerie McGuffie and Renee O’Brien. McGuffie set a Conference record in the 200 meter dash and added a gold medal in the 55 meter dash. O’Brien won the High Jump with a jump of 5 feet 3 inches. Angelica Pizzi also chipped with a third place finish in the 3000 meter run.
The men, who placed 10th, were led by Tylor Hart, who placed third in the High Jump, Shawn Lawson, who took third in the Pole Vault, and Xavier Romero, who also placed third in the Long Jump. The men’s 4×200 meter relay team of Kelly Desane, Fritz Gustave, Norbert Simon, and Chris Sian Aguirre placed fourth and set a new school record.
On Feb. 22, a handful of Beacon runners competed at the New England Division III meet. On the men’s side, three runners competed at MIT. Lawson placed eighth in the 200 meter dash and 19th in the 60 meter dash. Gustave finished 19th in the 200 and 32nd in the 60, while Desane placed 23rd in the 200.
The women placed 20th in the team competition at Springfield College and were led once again by McGuffie, who placed fifth in the 60 meter dash. Also competing in the 60 was Krista Ledin (29th), O’Brien and Anisha Trappier, who finished tied for 27th. The four then teamed up to place fourth in the 4×200 meter relay. Anitra Kloczewiak, Pizzi, Ari Leao, and Danielle Valeri teamed up in the 4×400 meter relay to place 21st. The Beacons next compete at the NEICAAA All-New England Meet at Boston University on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1, and then at the ECAC Division III meet in Boston on Mar. 7 and Mar. 8.
