If you were a fan of the first “Horrible Bosses I have good news for you! “Horrible Bosses 2” is almost exactly the same, and it’s not a bad thing. Director Sean Anders took everything that was great about the first movie, added some new flavor, and mixed it all together in this surprisingly decent sequel. Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis), and Dale (Charlie Day) attempt to start their own business after the events of the first movie. In an attempt to get investors, they go to Bert (Christoph Waltz) and Rex (Chris Pine) Hanson, father and son millionaires. When Bert deceives them into building their own factory, the gang decides to kidnap his son in an attempt to swindle the money they lost out of him. I won’t get too much into detail but I think you can see where it goes from there based off of the first movie.
Sequels are rarely up to par with the original movie. With the exception of “The Godfather 2” and — depending on who you ask — “Aliens,” sequels are just a sad attempt to recreate the excitement of the first movie. “Horrible Bosses 2″ does almost everything you’d expect them to do wrong, right. Anders didn’t switch up the formula at all. The only main difference is that he substituted murder for kidnapping, which is surprisingly interchangeable in this franchise. Not to mention Bateman, Sudeikis, and Day play their characters exactly the same, not a single difference. Which, if you enjoyed the first movie as much as I did, is not a bad thing at all.
Even the three supporting characters, Dave Harkin (Kevin Spacey), Julia (Jennifer Aniston), and “MF” Jones (Jamie Foxx) reprised their roles and played them exactly the way they did in the first movie. I honestly think that not changing anything was a good thing for this movie. They didn’t try to force some new direction or new comedy style — they kept everything that was funny about the first movie, and it worked out perfectly. Even with the addition of Pine and Waltz, who did very well for themselves in a film like this, it was a very good sequel. If you were a fan of the first movie I definitely recommend seeing “Horrible Bosses 2.” It’s the “Taken 2” of comedy.
‘Horrible Bosses 2’ is exactly the same as the first — and that’s okay
