With two wins at the recent Endicott Invitational over Babson and SUNY Canton, Beacon Volleyball Head Coach, Terry Condon, became the first coach in the history of the program to reach 200 wins. Condon has taken the Beacons to heights that were previously unfathomable and this achievement represents not only a personal effort on her part but an effort from the hundreds of athletes that she has guided in the last decade.
Now in her tenth season, Condon has found success everywhere she has played or coached. A member of the UCLA Bruins Hall of Fame, she won two National Championships out west, and played for the U.S. National Team throughout the 1970s, including a World Champion team in 1970.
Following a very successful tenure as the head coach at Texas A&M, where she won 180 matches, Condon returned to UCLA to work as an associate Athletic Director until 1994, when she came to Boston to first work as an associate AD at Northeastern and then arrived on the peninsula in 2006.
Condon has achieved so much since coming to UMass Boston. She has led the Beacons to six twenty-win seasons, numerous All American honors, and three Elite Eights. She has multiple players playing professionally overseas and the program is widely believed to be the strongest at UMass Boston. The Beacons often open their seasons in exotic locations against very strong teams, sometimes a full division above them.
“Winning my 200th match at UMass Boston truly means so much to me,” Condon said.
“The girls played two very hard matches last Friday and to celebrate this achievement with them and my coaching staff is something I will never forget.”
The 200 win milestone is nice, but the 22nd ranked Beacons remain focused on their ultimate goal of returning to the Elite Eight and hopefully winning a National Title. Currently they sit at 9-3 after a 1-3 start, and will be hosting their own invitational next weekend. It’s still early but the squad seems to be gelling well and with seniors Kirsten Morrison and Emma Rocha leading the way, they will be a top contender for the Little East Conference Title.
