Beacons Update

Beacon Update

Men’s Soccer
Following a historic season for the Beacon’s soccer program, Coach Jake Beverlin appears to be back on track to win the LEC tournament title again this season. In the offseason, Beverlin brought in several high profile recruits, including several players from the FC Greater Boston Bolts and a few transfer student athletes. The Bolts play in the Academy, a league that is widely considered the best among youth players. The Beacons first game of the new season was a one sided victory, 3-0, against Salve Regina University. Dasilva, Barbosa, and Lima were the Beacon goal scorers.

Women’s Soccer
After graduating the most dedicated player in the female soccer team’s history, the Beacons will have many challenges ahead of them. Despite the adversity, Coach Zombeck has put in some solid work with recruitment, and the team has high hopes for next year. The Beacons first game is scheduled at home against Kean University on September 5th.  Captains Bendick, Brooks, and Peters are expected to have break out seasons this year for University of Massachusetts Boston.

Volleyball
For the Beacons Volleyball program, a championship is always the goal at the start of the season. Despite a slow start, with a loss to Emerson College, 2-3, UMass Boston still has high hopes for the upcoming year. The Beacons will be playing a double header on September 4, 2015, at the Elmhurst College Invitational. Their season will be extremely challenging, as the Beacons have a top 10 strength of schedule for NCAA DIII volleyball. 6 of their first 8 games are Nationally Ranked programs, or highly voted for programs. However, Coach Condon, her new assistants, and squad are all up for the task.

Cross Country
Cross Country is in the process of building up their program. Over the past few years, track and field has been at the center of attention. However, this year Coach Walker is making strides in building up the reputation of Beacons Cross Country. The first official meet is September 5th, at the Jim Sheehan Alumni Invitational.  Newcomers are welcome to meet with Coach Walker for potential spots on the men’s or women’s squad. Contact the athletics department for more information.

Tennis
The Tennis season has come to a slow start, as the program has lost both of their first 2 games. They suffered a 0-9 loss against Mount Holyoke College and an 1-8 loss against Smith College. The losses aren’t a full representation of the team’s ability, and Coach Berg is hoping to turn things around for next week’s matches against Emerson College and Worcester State University. Captain Logan Smith and Captain Kelly Shea are expected to have great seasons, alongside Junior Kathleen Conroy.
