Men’s Basketball
9-8 (1-5 LEC)
The guys have struggled since they returned from winter break on Jan. 6, dropping five of their last seven contests after a 7-3 start to the year. They opened up this stretch with a 60-45 win over Framingham State in which Gregory Young led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds. A few days later, they dropped a close one to Eastern Connecticut, 83-78. Karl Agenor had a monster game for the Beacons with 24 and 16, but it wasn’t enough to overtake a top-25 opponent. Following a 78-65 win over Plymouth State (with 25 points from Carl Joseph), the Beacons suffered losses at the hands of Bridgewater State (65-58), Western Connecticut (82-70), and UMass Dartmouth (85-75). They closed out this most recent stretch with an 80-67 loss at Tufts, despite 24 points from Joseph and an additional 15 from Omar Benabicha. Currently, Joseph is leading the way for the Beacons with 19.5 points per game with Young chipping in 15.5 of his own. Agenor is averaging 10.9 rebounds per game.
Women’s Basketball
10-6 (3-3 LEC)
The Beacons have been scorching hot since returning from winter break. They’ve won five of their last seven games and most of those have been blowouts. They started this stretch with a 67-42 win over Salve Regina. Kirsten Morrison led the way with 12 points and the Beacons shot 47% from the field in the comfortable victory. Next, the Beacons needed a huge game from freshman guard Grace Geary to down Brandeis in a nail-biter, 69-65. Geary scored 26 points and kicked in six assists, while Olivia Murphy scored 12 points and added 10 boards. Following a loss to Eastern Connecticut (63-59), the Beacons dominated Plymouth State, 74-49. Geary shined once again with 27 points (4-5 from three) and five assists as the Beacons took off on a 20-2 run to open the second half. After a 64-37 win over Bridgewater State, the Beacons took to the road to close out the stretch with 57-42 win over Western Connecticut and an 85-75 loss at UMass Dartmouth. Geary is leading the way for the Beacons with 14.3 points per game and Murphy is number one on the team with 9.6 rebounds per game.
Women’s Hockey
8-6-4 (5-3-2 ECAC East)
The Beacons have gone 3-3 since returning from winter break. They have been one of the pleasant surprises of the winter season and are looking to finish strong heading into the conference tournament. They began this stretch with a tough loss in the Codfish Bowl final to Stevenson University, 3-2 (OT). They must have been frustrated by this, because they put a whoopin’ on New England College their next time out, 12-1. Four Beacons (Samantha Fallon, Jenny Currie, Kayla Smith, and Alyssa Sullivan) scored twice in the matchup, which was the most lopsided win in program history. Following a win at St. Michael’s (2-1), the Beacons have dropped their last two matches. They were defeated by Salve Regina, 4-2 and then Castleton State the next night, 2-1. Fallon and Sullivan are tied for the team lead with six goals each while Jane Morrisette leads the Beacons with eight assists. Kailyn Burke has been strong in net, with a 1.83 goals against average.
