Update (Friday, March 23, 9:41 a.m.): Ahead of the upcoming student trustee elections, current trustee Bianca Baldassarre and candidate Alexis Marvel were supposed to have a debate yesterday on the first floor terrace of the Campus Center. The debate did not take place because Baldassarre did not show up.
The student trustee serves on the UMass Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees determines items such as student fees and tuition, enrollment goals and health insurance policy. The student trustee serves with the UMass Boston chancellor and the president of the UMass system. The decisions made by this board drastically affect the lives of students, staff and faculty.
Bianca Baldassarre is the current student trustee. In her public platform statement Baldassarre said that if re-elected, “I plan to expand my progress for the sole purpose of the benefit of the student body. My experience and motivation will facilitate in proceeding and progressing, and my main goal is to achieve profit for the average student.”
Alexis Marvel is currently the Vice President of the Model United Nations club, a founding member of the UMass Boston Student Union, and a representative for the Public Higher Education Network of Massachusetts (PHENOM). In her public platform statement Marvel said, “ [I will use] my extensive experience working with students, administrators, and legislators to ensure that we have a voice in the issues that affect us most, I would continue my passionate commitment and use my influence to guarantee an affordable, high quality education for us all.”
Voting will be open April 2-5. Email will be sent to all UMass Boston email addressee with a link to the voting page. The link can also be found on the Undergraduate Student Government and Mass Media websites.
