“My name is Frank and I collect secrets.”
For those in attendance of the PostSecret event on Thursday, Feb. 23 in the Campus Center Ballroom at 3:30 p.m., this may sound familiar.
Some know Frank Warren as the “Most Trusted Stanger in America” and the founder of the project PostSecret. He created it as an outlet for people to anonymously mail their secrets on a custom-made postcard.
It was a full house in the ballroom. Books were available for purchase, although all of them sold out before the event even began. Students were able to grab a copy of “PostSecret: Confessions on Life, Death, and God” for only $5 at the event. At the end of the event, Frank Warren signed and stamped books.
Frank Warren told his story about how PostSecret started. Not everyone thought Frank’s idea was extraordinary when he started. Despite the opposition everywhere he went, his mother called it “diabolical”. Frank shared many of his favorite secrets submitted over time and secrets that didn’t make it into the book during his presentation.
A highlight from the event was when the audience was given the opportunity to come to the microphone and reveal their secret. Confessions included:
“I was bullied in high school, he died a year later… I never had a chance to forgive him.”
“In my life right now, I feel very lonely… Sometimes I feel like I am the only lonely person out there, but I know that’s a bunch of BS. For those of you out there who feel lonely too, there is nothing wrong with you and you are not the only one who feels this way.”
Frank Warren’s final message to the audience was, “You are never alone, we all have secrets.”
