Over the summer, Student Body President Jesse Wright, on behalf of the Undergraduate Student Government and the student body, sent an open invitation to both Massachusetts Senatorial campaigns offering them individual opportunities to speak to our University of Massachusetts Boston community.  It is with great anticipation that we announce U.S. Senate candidate and consumer advocate, Elizabeth Warren has recently accepted her invitation.  She will be joined by and Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Maryland) in the Ryan Lounge at 12:30 on Friday, October 26, 2012.  Together they will hold a conversation with students on the effects this upcoming election will have on women and education.

Doors to the Ryan Lounge will open at 12:00p.m. The first 200 attendees will be seated, with limited availability for standing room overflow. 

“As a vibrant epicenter of education and research, UMass Boston is proud to host Ms. Warren and Senator Mikulski for this incredible opportunity concentrated on our students.  The invitation was sent after some disappointment when our university lost the senate debate in June, but through incredible diligence and persistence, it has resulted in overwhelming success.  My job is to ensure the students at the University of Massachusetts Boston do not miss out on prolific events like hearing from Ms. Warren about her plans for Massachusetts and the United States Senate.  I would like to specifically thank the members of my cabinet, our administration, and the Warren campaign for working together to make this a reality.  I can only hope that Senator Brown also realizes the value of speaking to our students and accepts his invitation as well.  Please join me in welcoming our prestigious guests this Friday.”  -  Jesse Wright
