Do you know who the Tuskegee airmen are? If you were on campus this Friday, you would have found out when Cuba Gooding Jr. came to campus! He is the star actor in the new movie “Red Tails,” which premiered in theaters Jan. 20.
Gooding came to UMass Boston, along with producer Rick McCallum, to promote the newly released Hollywood film depicting the times and trials of the racially segregated Tuskegee airmen in World War II.
Evita Gonzalez, a sophomore majoring in political science with a minor in public policy, was at the event and had lots to say–all good, of course.
“Cuba [Gooding Jr.] was very genuine during the event… It’s not a movie just for black Americans, but for all Americans. The event itself was lighthearted and fun, but it had serious moments. Out of everything I heard that day, I will always remember one quote: ‘America isn’t perfect. So why don’t we hold her hand until she gets better?'”
Gooding was the star attraction in the movies “Snow Dogs” (released in 2002) and “Radio” (released in 2003).
