Student Attempts to Jump From the Third Floor in the Campus Center

A student attempted to jump from the Campus Center 3rd floor on Dec. 6, between 6 pm and 7 pm.

The student was distraught and crying with friends when he or she tried to jump. Friends prevented him or her from doing so and brought the student back to a safe area. They then notified Campus Safety. The student remained with friends until officers arrived.

A witness who preferred not to give his name told Mass Media reporters that the student who tried to jump “is not the only one out there.” Seeing the incident “makes you think more about…how to help others to not get to that place.”

Campus Police are currently filing their report and will release more information as it becomes available.

Students who are experiencing distress should visit or call the Counseling Center in the Quinn Administration Building. Advice for students who encounter distressed or distressing classmates is available here.
