Junior volleyball player and outside hitter Kate White is the Star You See this week. White, in her team’s 3-0 victory over Pine Manor College last week, eclipsed the previous record of 873 career kills set in 2002 by Laurel Smith.
With her team leading the third and decisive game, 21-20, White smashed the record-tying kill to giver her team a 22-20 lead. White finished the game with a new record of 875 kills and the Lady Beacons won game three, 25-22.
Along with junior Kate McWhorter (4.42 kills/game, first in LEC) and freshman Cassy Hanneman (8.87 assists/game, fourth in LEC), White has been an instrumental cog driving the Lady Beacons to their best record (19-7) since 1999 when the team finished at 22-5. Her 2.72 kills per game this season are seventh in the Little East and second on the team.
Over the course of her three-year career at UMass Boston, White has averaged 3.07 kills per game.
