PROVIDENCE, RI – University of Massachusetts Boston men’s basketball player Tony Barros (Dorchester, MA) has been named the Little East Conference Player of the Week for the week of November 20-26, it was announced today.  The award marks the fifth time in Barros’ career that he has received the honor. Barros helped the Beacons to a 2-1 week to open their season, averaging 27.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.3 steals, 2.0 assists and 1.3 blocks per game, while shooting .403 (25-62) from the field, including .325 (13-40) from three-point range in addition to a .769 (20-26) free throw mark.  The senior capped the week with the greatest scoring output of his career, pouring in a school-record 46 points on 14-27 from the floor, including 9-21 from three-point territory to lead UMass Boston to a 102-100 double-overtime victory over Colby-Sawyer College in the consolation game of the 22nd Annual Harbor Invitational, hosted by the Beacons on November 25.  Barros also converted 9 of 12 free throws, while grabbing eight rebounds, making four steals, blocking a pair of shots and dishing for an assist.  The Saint Sebastians’ product eclipsed the former scoring record of 45 points, held by Frankie Patten, who accomplished the feat on February 10, 2001 vs. Plymouth State University.  The swingman wasn’t too shabby the rest of the week either, netting 24 points on 8-16 from the floor to open the season in an 86-80 win at Fitchburg State College on November 21, while adding six boards, four steals and a blocked shot as well.  Barros dropped in 13 points in addition to grabbing six rebounds, passing for four assists, making two steals and rejecting a shot on November 24 vs. Framingham State College in the first round of the Harbor Invitational. UMass Boston Women’s Ice Hockey Skates to 3-3 Tie with Colby BOSTON, MA — The final 46:06 remained without a goal as the University of Massachusetts Boston women’s ice hockey team came away with a 3-3 tie vs. visiting Colby College, tonight at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston.  The Beacons snap a four-game losing streak and are now 0-4-1, while the Mules are 1-2-1. Bennett Leads UMass Boston Men’s Basketball Over Suffolk, 77-63 BOSTON, MA – Sophomore center Rodney Bennett (Mattapan, MA) posted a double-double of 20 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston men’s basketball team over visiting Suffolk University, 77-63, tonight at the Clark Athletic Center on the UMass Boston campus.  The Beacons improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Rams fall to 1-4.
