Stay Fabulous

Stay Fabulous

This is a fabulous moment for fashion: A divine fusion of lady-like luxury and sexy glamour is strutting down the runways and into our closets.

The mood behind this seasons fashion is innate glamour. Like the I-just-showed-up-fabulous glamour that is only achieved when you feel extremely comfortable and stunningly confident. Last season we were covered in so many fashion labels ala LV’s CC’s and G’s that we began looking like walking billboards, but now’s the time to ease up on the labels and be more focused on wearing clothes that genuinely complement your gorgeous body. Try a plunging silk camisole or bustier in luminous shades of emerald, crimson, and gold; skinny jeans adorned with thin glistening belts; towering peep-toe shoes; and a faux fur coat draped over your shoulders, and darling, you will be positively tres chic. Tights are a fab accessory to shield your legs from the winter chill, and look surprisingly hot when worn with black or pinstripe cuffed shorts, a simple long-sleeved shirt and wedge or platform heels.

The jewelry for this season is very Cleopatra-esque, with glistening gold cuffs, oversized rings, and layers of luminous necklaces adorning every modern goddess. In lieu of the live snakes that Cleopatra was known to wrap around her wrists, there are great costume jewelry styles of snake cuffs and rings which will add a little worship me royalty to any look. The key to wearing this trend is to make your jewels chicly accessible to you. Have your costume jewelry spilling out of a pretty crystal ashtray near your front door so you can just grab some pieces and be dripping in jewels while rushing off to start your day. To transform your jewelry from day to night, try wearing a ring on your pointer finger, and wrap your necklace around your wrist to create a glam bracelet. Even try fastening a tiny earring or broach discreetly to your hair for a vintage look. It’s all about switching up what you already have, and creating an element of the unexpected.

While at school, the freezing winter breezes will send us leaping into our UGG’s no matter how last-season chunky boots have been declared by the major fashion houses. But you can chic-up your look by pairing the boots with cozy leggings, an oversize wrap, and Jackie O style sunglasses.

For style inspiration, think modernized version of Marilyn Monroe and Brigitte Bardot; glamorously tousled hair, wine-colored glossy nails, pouty lips, and thin sweeps of liquid eyeliner to create a seductive yet effortless look. Much of the flowing dresses, sexy bustiers, and opulent jewelry is inspired by an era when women were able to take the time to sip glamorous cocktails while swathing themselves in their most gorgeous fashions. And while that life of leisure sounds wonderful, the women of today are most likely concerned with finding a way to simultaneously slip on their stilettos without singeing themselves with their morning coffee all while scampering out the door. At a time when we are terribly overwhelmed with an immense amount of homework, papers, and monotonous group projects, it is fantastic to take a moment as Carrie Bradshaw of Sex & the City says, “Go shopping and awaken the creative subconscious!”

Take a walk down Newbury Street in the evening; it is especially beautiful now with the holiday lights. Glance at the latest fashions, sip a warm cappuccino, and toast to yourself darling! Whatever you choose to wear this season let your confidence and charm make the biggest statement. While dripping in jewels, and draped in a cozy shrug or fur, you will be an image of Old Hollywood, iconic beauty.
