Are you sitting down? Good. I have some bad news.
Robert Goulet is dead.
It is a musical tragedy, really. Wait a second. What did you say? You don’t know who Robert Goulet was? Well, you are not alone. There are a lot of people like you who have no idea who he was. I guess I should tell you.
Goulet was a singer and an actor. To be honest, he was a pretty good one.
For many he has become one of those “celebrities” that is recognized by name and not by accomplishment.
So, how will we, the youth of America, remember Robert Goulet?
Most recently, in a 2007 Superbowl ad for Emerald Nuts, he was the guy who comes into the office around 3:00 and “messes with your stuff,” only to be dispelled from his mischief making by a handful of nuts.
Will Ferrell did an impersonation of him on Saturday Night Live trying to sell an album of hip hop covers like Notorious BIG’s “Big Poppa” or Sisco’s “Thong Song.” If you haven’t seen it for some strange reason, youtube it. Hilarious doesn’t even begin to describe it.
He was featured in a 1993 episode of “The Simpsons” in which Bart kidnaps him and forces him to perform in his treehouse casino.
And, so, a man with loads of talent is gone, only to be remembered in those parodies that will live forever. Though his music can still be heard, but it’s appeal has long since left the mainstream. But, luckily, the humor will live on.
