The UMass Boston volleyball team squared off against Emerson College at home, hoping to ride their win streak to five. Both teams went back and forth taking two sets a piece, but the Beacons managed to pull out a win in the fifth set of the match.
It’s been a team effort throughout the 2007 season, and Tuesday, October 9 wasn’t any different. Sophomore Kate White had an excellent night with 23 digs, 14 kills, and two aces. Sophomore middle hitter Natalie Crist also had 14 kills, seven blocks, and a dig. Randle Stock, the senior setter, has continued to distribute the ball throughout this season adding 40 assists and three digs. Freshman libero Emily Thompson and defensive specialist Alessandra Adamo kept the defense in check, with Thompson having 19 digs while Adamo added 17. Sophomore outside hitter Meghan MacAuley also turned in 12 kills, 16 digs, and one block in a collaborated effort.
With their fifth consecutive win the Beacons have achieved .500 for the season at 10-10, but are really hitting a stride as they approach the last couple games of the year. The Beacons have been on somewhat of a rollercoaster ride, opening the season with a win followed by seven straight losses. They bounced back with four wins in a row, then four losses. They have made a valiant effort to win out the rest of the season, which fairs very well for them, considering how young of a team they have.
UMass Boston will play Framingham State College on Tuesday, October 16 at 6 p.m. in the Clark Athletic Center here on campus. This happens to be one of the last regular season games of the year, so if you haven’t seen these ladies in action and would like to, here is your chance.
