Three wins in a row for Beacons’ soccerMaynor Sanchez and Romeo Zeqo both had multi-point games and the Beacons rolled to a 5-2 victory to improve their record to 8-3-0. Wednesday’s win gave the Beacons their best start to a season in school history, and as they progress towards another playoff bid, the team is starting to peak at the right time.
Sanchez, the team leader in goals with eight, netted two more to lead way. Zeqo, Henry Marin and Ludji Chipps also scored in the decisive win. Chipps, a freshman forward has now scored a goal in three straight games.
Women’s volleyball puts a streak togetherIn an up-and-down season so far, the lady beacons are riding high right now after a three game sweep in the Salem State College Tournament.
The women defeated Mount Holyoke, Salem State and Pine Manor Colleges en route to improving their record to 8-10 overall.
Superb sophomore Kate White led the way for the Beacons last weekend, totaling 29 kills over the three matches. Meghan MacAuley teamed up with White against Mount Holyoke College as she had 12 kills to go along with White’s 11.
Emily Thompson, UMass Boston’s Defensive stalwart led her team in digs, averaging over 13 per match in the tournament.
The Beacons are still winless in-conference, sitting at 0-2. Their chance at improving that mark will be Saturday, October 20 when the Plymouth State University-LEC Tournament gets under way.
Go figure: Leavitt leads the way for Cross CountryMike Leavitt ran his best race of 2007, finishing second overall in the eight-kilometer Tri State Cross Country Invitational held in Rhode Island.
UMass Boston Cross Country star Mike Leavitt finished 39 seconds behind winner Forest Wilbur with a time of 27:01. Patrick Day (30:39), Ryan Norton (31:12), and Sam Sanchez (31:37) all had good races.
Caitlin McQueen topped Yelena Bryant for the first time this year, beating her teammate by 23 seconds with a time of 22:57 while placing 18th overall in the five-kilometer race. Joy Risko (24:07) and Tamzin Partridge (25:06) also finished strong for the UMass ladies.
