Is it true Boston is the city that music built? The Boston local scene wasn’t built in a day. Over many decades, legends like Aerosmith, Godsmack, The Dropkick Murphys and Bobby Brown make Boston a driving force in the music industry. Drummer to one of these legends, Aerosmith’s Joey Kramer hosted this year’s 20th Annual Boston Music Awards. The Dropkick Murphys took the award for outstanding punk band of the year, while Sully from Godsmack presented for Album of the Year – Indie. Bobby Brown, along Buffalo Tom was inducted to the Boston Music Awards Hall of Fame. In a tearful speech, Bobby Brown vocalized his inner thoughts by gratefully recognizing his fans. “This means a great deal to me. Being recognized by my own community is something that is so special.”

Besides the local legends, the new crop of talent graced the stage. The pop rock sensation, discovered in Boston’s own Paradise Rock Club, “The Click Five” performed the song “Jenny.” Also in the pop scene, JoJo gave a soulful performance, leaving the impression she decided to leave the pop sound for a more mature tone for the evening. An awesome blues segment took the crowd by storm. Performances by James Montgomery, Johnny A, Weepin’ Willie, Eli “Paperboy” Reed, Peter Gammons, Short’y Billups and Barry Goudreau added to the sultry and intoxicating aura of the night. The other highlight of the evening was township that set a raging fire of music and song as they performed the Boston favorite, “Dirty Water.”

As the night came to a close, musicians alike gathered at The Hard Rock Café to celebrate the success of the event. Free beers were had, and musicians socialized with each other in commemoration of a night that recognized fine artistic achievement. The Boston local scene was honored for its legends and its local favorites who have made fans so fervent with devotion. All in all, the night was a success for those involved.
