UMass Boston’s OpenCourseWare LaunchedOpenCourseWare, a program that makes materials used to teach UMass Boston’s undergraduate and graduate classes available free to Internet users, opened up to the public on Nov. 28. So far, nine UMass Boston faculty members have contributed materials for 12 courses. UMass Boston is the first public university in the northeast, and the seventh university in the U.S., to launch an OpenCourseWare site. The other schools are MIT, Tufts University, Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins, Utah State and University of California Irvine. To view the site, visit http://ocw.umb.edu.

Motley Receives Award from Mass. Advocates for ChildrenChancellor Keith Motley received an award from the Massachusetts Advocates for Children on Nov. 29 in recognition of his commitment to helping children in need. Noted was his leadership on different children’s issues in Boston for many years, such as his national “Do the Write Thing Challenge” and his founding and leading of the Roxbury Preparatory Charter School.

One Stop Temporarily RelocatedThe One Stop office relocated to UL-211, the room across from the Atrium Cafe on Dec. 5. The One Stop moved because the office is undergoing renovation. They are hoping the improvements will prove efficient to students, particularly in providing faster service. The One Stop will be in their temporary location until Dec. 24.

Creative Advertising School to Open in BostonDavid Register, former Arnold Creative Director, is opening a creative advertising school in early 2008, the first of its kind in Boston. Option, set to open in January, will be run out of the Arnold Worldwide offices on Huntington Ave. and will house two eight-week programs designed to give creative concept training for the advertising industry. The seminars will meet once a week for two hours, with class sizes no bigger than 12 students. The first series, Concept 1, will teach basic idea generation, while the second series, Concept 2, will focus on advancing skills and portfolio creation. Freud Present in Undergrad Studies-Except PsychologyThe American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) analyzed the curricula of 150 highly-ranked colleges to investigate their teaching of psychoanalysis. The APsaA said that evidence of psychoanalysis was evident in many humanities and social sciences departments, but much less so in the psychology department. Of the 150 schools in the survey, 13 were from Massachusetts, including UMass Amherst, Boston College, Boston University, Harvard, MIT and Wellesley College.
