Wick’s Two Cents

Boston is a ravenous city when it comes to sports news. Our fans will scream at Sports Radio talk show hosts, write inflammatory comments on message boards and get in fights with an opposing team’s fans. We are hated around the country and we embrace that. It’s never a slow time for sports banter in these parts, so every week the Mass Media talks to UMass Boston’s Sports Information Director Alan Wickstrom about a pertinent issue swirling around the Boston. This week, we ask Alan how deep the Boston Celtics can go in the NBA Playoffs without Kevin Garnett.

I’m already on the record as saying that I think that Cavs would beat the Celtics in a seven-game series, especially with home court advantage. Without KG, I think the Celtics will have a tough time getting by Orlando, but I do think there’s something to be said for playoff experience, and they have it. I think players like Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Rondo and even someone like Leon Powe will step up and get them into the Eastern Conference Finals, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they lost to Orlando either. Ultimately, they get to Cleveland, but once they get there, I don’t think they have a chance. Cleveland is much better now than they were even a couple months ago and the Celtics are just too vulnerable defensively without KG and turn the ball over way too much to advance to the Finals.
