It has not even been a month into Donald Trump’s presidency and it seems as though his first, and hopefully last, term as president is already off to a rocky start. Although multiple parties are actively working to impeach him and raise awareness of the character leading this country, he continuously digs himself further into the hole we’ll remember as his presidency. Generously following through with multiple promises he made on the campaign trail, Trump seemingly has stacked the cards against the United States population, and managed to raise serious questions as to what exactly he plans to do with his next four years.
Forgetting that his cabinet is full of unqualified people, he himself has already signed multiple executive orders impeaching the rights of millions of Americans. Targeting abortion, immigration (along with his famous wall), and the America’s trade industry, Trump’s first few weeks in his position has already been a smear on this country, on top of the entire 2016 year.
What can be deduced from Trump’s presidency so far? Well, for starters, he does not care about the average American, and by average, I mean anyone in the 99 percent of Americans. Every lie that he spewed about helping middle America was just that—a lie. And the people who fell for that lie are going to pay the price. The man that less than half this country voted for has already managed to negatively impact a large portion of the people that voted for him, and those people have voiced their anger clearly on social media, the same platforms they used to promote him as president. To them, I say they get what they deserved.
But as for the millions of other Americans and people around the globe, Trump is a serious threat to their well-being. Not only do his immigration laws target prominently Muslim countries and Mexico, but they also spread a negative stigma, centering on all of the previously mentioned countries. By doing this, Trump is saying that they are people to either be afraid of or angry at, because they are the reason our country is this way, when reality it’s our own government’s fault. Not only that, but both the Keystone XL pipeline and the Dakota Access pipeline are back on the table, after people were nearly killed protesting them. The list of horrible executive orders continuously pour out of his tiny little hands, out to the news sources to drill it into every aspect of our daily lives, while everyone who didn’t vote for him, and those that did and realized he was as bad as everyone was saying all along, is wondering how he even got to where he is.
What can be done about all this? After all, anyone can complain about anything and not do a damn thing about it. In this case, staying silent is not doing anything. As long as you continuously voice your disapproval concerning the situation he is putting us all in, protest the injustices, march in solidarity of true justice, and fight back, then you are doing your part.
Not all of us may have the power to do something, but as long as you stand by what you believe to be right, you are doing enough.
