Great hair is an essential part of your appearance; if your hair looks good, you usually look good regardless of what you may be wearing or whether or not you have makeup on. Shiny, healthy, voluminous hair can definitely be a task and seem impossible in these dry and frosty winter months. Don’t lose hope, though! There are a few things that can be done to get those Herbal Essence-like luscious locks (minus the gorgeous man lathering you up, of course- unless you’re that lucky)! The sad but true reality is that as soon as the hair exits the follicle, it is dead. Unless you love and nurture your hair, don’t expect it to stay healthy and manageable. I’m not saying spend a ton of time on your hair daily, but do take into consideration that any damage done to your hair is nearly irreversible. Skip the heat! Using a hot iron every day on your hair is torture. Instead, let it air dry, save the straightening for special occasions or when you need to look polished. Natural looking hair is definitely in.While all these new hair products are boasting how great they are, often times they are overpriced. My professional advice is to make sure you have a good shampoo that is worth spending a decent amount on. However, you can use ingredients at home that have amazing results to condition and deep treat your locks. If your locks are looking drab, or if you just want a pick me up and some added moisture and shine, give yourself an at home hair treatment. Hair masks are relaxing, easy, and don’t take much time. Results are incredible, and it is likely you have these ingredients in your pantry.Olive Oil Mask: Depending on upon the thickness of your hair, apply about a half cup or so to your hair. Focus on the shaft of the hair more so than the roots; the ends usually need more TLC. You want your hair to be coated enough so that it is shiny, but not necessarily drenched. Leave this in your hair for at least 15 minutes, but the longer you leave it, the better the results. Get comfortable, watch a movie! Shampoo and proceed with normal styling. (Coconut oil works really well too and smells yummy!)Avocado Hair Mask: Mash up the flesh of one avocado, one egg yolk, and a half teaspoon of olive oil. Apply the mixture liberally to your hair shaft and scalp. Allow the mix to penetrate and be absorbed for at least 30 minutes. Shampoo (and condition if you feel it is necessary). These masks are amazing, affordable and effective. If you find that for some reason the oil is not completely washing out, using some apple cider vinegar as a clarifier- it is great for buildup and leaves your hair feeling incredibly soft.It is safe to perform these treatment once a week if you are so inclined to do so, though everybody’s hair is different and you need to figure out what works best for you. I guarantee you will see and feel a huge difference in your hair. Enjoy!
