As the New England Revolution ran on the field to play their first game in October on Saturday, one thing was different than it had been the past eight years. This time, the first in eight years, the Revolution was not in contention for the playoffs. The team still gave a good fight against Real Salt Lake, with the first half of the game remaining scoreless. In the 61st minute, Real Salt Lake scored. Twenty minutes later, Sainey Nyassi, assisted by Kenny Mansally, of Revolution later scored against RSL. Revolution couldn’t celebrate for too long, however—two minutes later, RSL’s Alvaro Saborio headed the ball into the net and locked in a 2-1 lead. More than 18,000 people were in the stands due to the 15th annual High School Night, with over 100 schools and teams in the crowd to support the team. At half-time, the marching band from BMC Durfee High School of Fall River played. Saturday also marked a league-wide campaign to support breast cancer, apparent in the player’s pink laces, the pink-accented soccer balls, and goalkeeper Matt Reis’ pink jersey. Though Revolution may have lost, there was still a lot of spirit at the game.
