The UMass Boston Women’s Basketball team continued to show strength and improvement Thursday night in trouncing the Wheelock College Lady Wildcats. With the win, the Lady Beacons have surpassed their win total from last season, only six games into the season.
The Lady Beacons were phenomenal. The Lady Beacons were much faster and more aggressive then the tamed Lady Wildcats. The Lady Beacons played smart grabbing up every loose ball. The Lady Wildcats were in a daze and waited for the whistle to blow. The Lady Beacons employed a very effective and suffocating defensive strategy that forced the Lady Wildcats to take tough and contested shots from way beyond the three point line. The Lady Wildcats never had the defect less than 10 points throughout the entire game.
Freshmen Kendra Mosley has played a pivotal role in the teams success early on. Her aggressive defense resulted in many offensive opportunities and easy baskets. Recently, Mosley was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the week. Mass Media had a chance to catch up with the fabulous freshmen after yet another sound performance. On this night, Mosley had 13-points, 4-rebounds, and 4-assists.
MM: How does it feel to be named the Little East Conference rookie of the week?
Mosley: I’m very pleased. It is an honor, but I credit the team. I can’t succeed without them.
MM: What made you decide to come to UMass Boston?
Mosley: Basketball mainly. I met with Coach Mattingly and she was great. She seemed like a good leader, like she could get me where I want to go. Plus, there is a really good pre med program here.
MM: Would you consider yourself an offensive or defensive player?
Mosley: I like defense better. I like to give the ball back to my team.
On a side note, Colleen Hooper stole the show tonight. The freshmen had 20-points, 5-rebounds, and 4-steals. Senior Cammy Brown had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Beacons will be on the road for their next two games against Keene St. and Mt. Ida. The Lady Beacons return home next Thursday, December 9, 2010 with a home game against Lesley at 530.
