In the competitive world of the University of Massachsetts Boston intramural sports, these past couple weeks have been filled with intense match-ups on the court. The first half of our intramural season is winding down and with that comes nail-biting championship games to crown the best in the league.
On Thursday nights, the Clark Gymnasium is transformed into a cricket field and fans line up to get in and watch the teams battle it out week after week. The Harbor Point Super Kings are currently sitting high and mighty in first place with excellent gameplay from Ankur Dua, Prateek Joshi, and Nandish Shah. UMass Boston Master Blasters’ Abhinav Bountra, Bharat Verma, and Ashley Mehta, along with support from the rest of the team, are helping them secure the second place position in the league. The Boston Fighters are swinging in at third place with exceptional sportsmanship and skill by Jilkumar Patel and Ankush Patel. This leaves the Royal Challengers in last place but as it is in the team name, they are coming for the HP Super Kings. Catch the crowned champion announced in next week’s article!
The first round of the men’s basketball playoffs is underway and the court is heating up. The league standings going into playoffs were OHYEAHHH and LOJ tied for first, with OHYEAHHH’s George Moutsopoulos and Nicholas Skowronek leading their team to first, while Roger Bravo and Markley Leandre are keeping LOJ right up there with them. In second place, we have Beyond the Arc, and third is AD Trade Package. Next we have Scrubs, 781ers, Rim Destroyers, White Mamba: Resurgence, and Walking Buckets, in fourth to eighth place, respectively.
Volleyball had their championship on Wednesday night, and Some Spike It Hot came out on top. Abhinav Bountra, Jilkumar Patel, Rebecca Catina, and Josephine Burlingame propelled the team to victory and got some sweet intramural merchandise to remember the epic night they had. If you see any of them around, make sure to congratulate the champions on their victory!
