The University of Massachusetts Boston baseball team had a relatively successful week but did not end on a high note. They played three games; winning the first two but then dropping their final game of the week. The Beacons overall record is now 10–7, and their conference record is 2–1. 
On Sunday, UMass Boston took down Salve Regina University in a slugfest, 15–10. Senior Fernando Burgos was on the mound for the Beacons and got the win, improving to an impressive 3–0. Despite allowing seven runs to cross the plate, only four of them were charged to Burgos due to a couple of errors. The Beacons offense got things rolling early and often, finding themselves ahead 10–0 through just two innings of play. Salve Regina tried to make things interesting as they cut the lead down to just four runs by the middle of the fifth inning, but UMass Boston’s bats were simply too much for them to handle. Senior Kyle Boudrias led the pack with three runs batted in on the day, while juniors Danny Brown and Anthony Cecere added two runs batted in of their own, with Cecere’s coming off of a home run. 
A couple of days later, freshman Dylan Fashempour continued his success in a start at Endicott College. He pitched five innings, gave up an unearned run, and improved his earned run average to an outstanding 2.14. He has only been charged five runs in five appearances this year, and four of those appearances were starts. It was evident from the beginning that this was going to be a pitcher’s duel between the two teams. Sure enough, this could not have been more true, as the score remained tied 1–1 through the ninth inning. It took some small ball and strategy for the Beacons to salvage their first run of the day. Junior Ryan McCormick reached on a walk in the second inning, and then stole second base. He eventually reached third on a single off the bat of junior Nick Cotraro and was eventually driven in thanks to a fielder’s choice from freshman Ryan Leung. This game went to extra innings of course, and that is where sophomore Nick Palma drove in the game-winning run in the tenth on a pinch-hit sacrifice fly. Boudrias added an insurance run as he later drove in Leung on a double. Senior Bobby Tramondozzi finished things off, earning his fifth save of the year as UMass Boston won, 3–1. 
The week came to a close with a home loss against Mitchell College, 10–6. Junior Ben Gottesman was given the start, and he put on a good performance. He pitched three innings and did not give up a hit, while striking out five batters. The Beacons struck first in the fourth inning, but Mitchell College responded with a late surge that was too much for UMass Boston to handle. While trailing 8–3 in the eighth, UMass Boston scored three runs to cut the lead down to just two. Mitchell College then scored two more in the final inning and never looked back. Boudrias once again had himself a good day offensively, driving in two runs on two hits. The Beacons have five games this week, so they have little time to dwell on their loss. They will be looking to get another winning streak going as soon as possible.
