Valentine’s Day is approaching, and this may be your most dreaded day of the calendar year. Or, you may even be like me, in a happy relationship, but your significant other is on the other side of the state. Whatever it may be, we’re all alone on this Valentine’s Day together, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Use this as an excuse to do something you’ve wanted to lately. Or, as an excuse to stay in, whatever you want to do, treat yourself this Valentine’s Day. If you’re having trouble thinking of something to do, here are some suggestions.

Watch movies all day
There is no shame in staying in all day. It can be fun to watch romantic comedies or the newest film recently uploaded to Netflix. New, old, classics, really anything. If movies aren’t really your thing, binge-watch a favorite show you haven’t seen in awhile! You could also watch Valentine’s Day episodes for different shows, they usually can be pretty comedic. I would suggest something funny to keep the mood light, but if you’re in the mood for some drama, have yourself a night doing that.
2. Hang out with friends
Get together all your friends that are free and make a dinner at someone’s apartment. It’s cheap, easy, and fun. You could even do a “Valentine’s Day sucks” theme. The possibilities are endless, plus you can all pitch in on a bottle of wine! If none of your friends like to cook, then order a pizza in.
3. Go to a local club/bar
There are tons of places that are having a Valentine’s Day special for their single customers. Go onto Facebook and look at events in Boston on Valentine’s Day, lots of restaurants have it listed as a special event. That way you can be safe with fellow single people rather than heading to eat at a place loaded with couples and lines. This is also a fun opportunity to meet new people!
4. Spa night
Not many students have the time and energy to do face masks or bubble baths very often. Now is the perfect excuse to do some self care! It’s really rewarding and nice to treat yourself with some relaxation. As students, we often encounter stress every single day but never do much to relieve that stress and to get it off our shoulders. Guys, don’t be afraid to give this a go as well!
Don’t be sad if you’re alone this Valentine’s Day. Don’t let yourself forget, Feb. 15 is the greatest day of the year: when all the candy goes on sale! Being comfortable in your own company is extremely rewarding and it’s nice to have a day to yourself where you can do anything you want. See a movie, take a nap, go shopping, but first and foremost be glad you have such an awesome date: yourself!
