Beacon Update

Men’s Basketball: UMass Boston’s men’s basketball team has cooled off just a bit from their hot start, recording their first loss of the young season to WPI, 6862. They began the year a perfect 40; defeating Eastern Nazarene College, MIT, Bridgewater State University, and Framingham State University. WPI was a big challenge, and the Beacons certainly gave them a competitive game. So far, they have not had a conference match-up, but Little East Conference games are definitely soon to be on the way. In fact, this week, UMass Boston will play two games and both are against LEC opponents. At 7:30 p.m.on Wednesday, the Beacons will host University of Southern Maine, and then on Saturday they will travel to Keene State College for a 3:30 p.m. game.
Women’s Basketball: Much like the men’s team, UMass Boston’s women’s basketball team is off to a great beginning of the year. They sit in at 40, winning all of their games convincingly. The Beacons are coming off of their closest game of the season, when they beat Emmanuel College 8479. Their conference schedule is going to get underway this week as well, as they will be taking on the same two conference opponents. On Wednesday, UMass Boston will host University of Southern Maine for a 5:30 p.m. game, and then will play at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Keene State College.
Men’s Ice Hockey: UMass Boston’s men’s hockey team has been somewhat subpar so far this season, but will have plenty of time to go on a run. They currently have a 3-3 overall record, with a 22 conference record. This past week, the Beacons defeated University of Southern Maine 81, and Castleton University 63. Unfortunately, they fell to Norwich University in their most recent game, 53. This week, the Beacons will be able to wait until the weekend before they play another game. On Saturday, they will travel to Colby College for a 4:00 P.M. game, and then to Bowdoin College for a 4 p.m. game on Saturday.
Women’s Ice Hockey: After going through a rough four-game losing streak just a week ago, UMass Boston’s women’s hockey team is back to its winning ways. They won both games that they played last week, defeating Plymouth State University 41, and then Castleton University 42. Their current overall record is 341, and their conference record is 24. Interesting enough, the Beacons are win-less at home with an 02 record, but are 321 on the road. This week, they will host Williams College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and then will play the winner of the Bowdoin College/Stevenson University match-up on Sunday at a time to be announced later.
