Halloween is quickly approaching and it can be expensive and difficult to come up with a costume. Most college students go out and dress up on multiple occasions, and Halloween costumes are ridiculously high priced so it can add up quickly! Plus, pop-up Halloween stores have all of the same thing, so it’s hard to get creative and do something that others haven’t yet. There are classic costumes that are always relevant or something more up-to-date pop-culture wise like a character from a popular TV show. These costumes should be able to be easily done and put together without taking up too much time or money. Halloween should be fun, so don’t waste your time stressing over your costume! If you’re looking to work with whatever you have at home and maybe grab some small stuff at Target for your night out, here’s a list of ideas for your DIY costume(s).

Tourist
This may take a trip to the local Goodwill, but it’s a pretty safe bet that you will find a Hawaiian shirt there. Grab some shorts and sandals, sunscreen to put on your face, a hat and a camera and you’re good to go. Bonus points if you can find a lei to wear around your neck, but it’s not necessary. This one just requires breaking out some summer clothes!

Skeleton
Even if you’re not a makeup guru, there are tons and tons of videos on YouTube listed for this exact reason. Rather than spend money on a costume, just paint one on! This will take a few hours of dedication and much practice but it is definitely do-able. Wear all black, and if you’re really trying to spice it up add some white paint to your clothes to look like bones. The most important part of this costume is having face paint that is easily managed so you can work with it.

Boxer
I say this one with experience, as it was a last minute costume for me last year, and it was not hard to complete this look at all. Grabbing purple and black eyeshadow and just putting them all over and under one eyelid is all you have to do. I didn’t even watch a video, I winged it and it took me less than five minutes. If you have a kimono jacket and either a sports bra or some shorts/workout attire, you’re golden! If you have any workout gloves around the house that also adds to the look, but it isn’t necessary.

Sports team player
If you’re from Boston, chances are you have at least some type of sports related attire hanging around your place. Whether it’s a Red Sox hat or a Celtics jersey, this is such a simple and effective costume. Grab some black face paint (or even eyeliner) and put two stripes across your cheek, and now you’re an athlete!
These costumes are for everyone and shouldn’t break the bank. As I said before, a quick trip to Goodwill can be really beneficial for not only finding things, but inspiring other ideas as well. You never know what you may find there, so might as well try! Enjoy the spooky season and don’t get too nervous over what to wear or how to celebrate, it doesn’t have to take as much effort as you may think.
