Saturday, Oct. 5 marked the day the models would hit the runway in a beautiful, Gothic style church on Newbury St. The head designer, Conrad Lamour, took a unique approach to this years theme and integrated both Brazilian fashion and Boston Fashion Week (BFW), as he has previously done work in Brazilian fashion. Miss Brazil United States hosted the show, and the event kicked off promptly at 8:30 p.m. The mix of many different designers with their own lines allowed for a wide range of fashion to be displayed.
There were wedding dresses, sequin off the shoulder dresses, a jewelry line, pant suits and many other things in between. A variety of different looks were strutted down the runway, however there was one commonality that stood out, a wild side, a nod to the Brazilian fashion integration. These pieces included animal print dresses and statement jewelry made out of feathers. The models walked to the upbeat sound of unique, tribal music.
Other bold, beautiful outfits that were displayed for this event included white pant suits with neon colors underneath, creating a satisfying contrast between the two. These looks were creative and trendsetting, while also shying away from the idea that bold outfits are too much.
Many of the outfits were paired with chunky, gold jewelry creating a sort of aesthetic for the show. The church was lined with bright gold designs and the runway itself was sparkling gold. Golden grass handmade eco-jewelry was inspired by Brazil’s “golden grass.” This same golden grass was held by models walking down the runway, another subtle Brazilian touch. Another way Brazil was honored for this show was the inclusion of the line IK BIO Jewelry being displayed on the models. This brand is 100% vegan and on their website, the head designer, Iona Klais, says they use the “craftsmanship of artisans using sustainable materials native to [my] home country Brazil.” Each piece of jewelry was gold and included earrings, necklaces, pins, bracelets, cuffs, chokers and even body jewelry.
Sylvie Dahi was one of the designers who showed her collection and the pieces we saw were beautiful. Long, bright gowns with extending trains led down the runway. She also had iridescent African style dresses with bell sleeves, off the shoulder dresses and more.
Overall, the representation in the models in regards to race and size was fairly equal which is saying a lot for a fashion show, as that is typically not the case. Some models had piercings or tattoos, but each was beautiful and walked the runway confidently. The intricate designs that incorporated different cultures and represented fashion were appreciated by the spectators. After hours of walking the runway, the show came to a successful end and each model walked the runway one last time.
