As the days pass by and you find yourself staring at the walls anticipating something to happen, it is often hard to find any enjoyment being stuck in your house. You miss your friends and crave a certain food that you cannot get due to the restaurant being closed. While it seems that there may be absolutely nothing to do as the days pass, there are some activities that actually help pass the time and can even benefit you in the end. Maybe you wanted to try that 15-minute ab workout or binge a new show. This is the perfect time to do so.
The best thing that can benefit you during these times is a little spring cleaning. Organizing around the house, that pesky linen closet, under the sink, or even your drawers can be one way that passing the time can benefit you and your family. Disinfecting and cleaning every day can also help with the spread of germs and cleaning those areas you never thought to clean before can be a way to rid you and your family of harmful, lingering germs. This act of spring cleaning can also include purging of items you may not need. Going through and organizing your closet or drawers during this quarantine time is the perfect way to regroup and reorganize around the house.
If cleaning is not your thing or has already been done by your mother or father who are in the same boredom boat as you, another way to pass the time is house projects. Painting bedrooms, building small things such as shelving units, or even setting up that new video cam you got from Christmas three years back can be something that might spark your interest. Painting and redoing a room are a way to get your mind off of the stress that comes with this new quarantine that many were unprepared for. That leaky sink or beeping fire alarm that has been bothering you for months can finally get fixed with this newfound free time as well.
After cleaning and house projects, one of the best ways to fill up your time is at home workouts. There are a variety of different workouts that suit every individual’s needs during this time of crisis. Planet Fitness and other various gyms even email at home workout videos that you can. Follow along to your bedroom or even your living room. This is the perfect time to get up and get out too. Taking a walk or run in your local area is a good way to get out of the house safely while practicing this new important idea of social distancing. Walking or running is the perfect opportunity to switch up the scenery you’re so used to as well. Find a local pond or wooded area with a safe running path and prepare to strengthen your mind and body with a relaxing and rejuvenating run or walk!
As exciting as exercise sounds, it is just truly not for everyone. If you prefer to stay indoors, another, just as exciting, activity can be baking or cooking. The internet provides a slew of different recipes that can be fun for you and your family to try out. Taking some of these recipes and altering them can be a fun filled day that you could use over and over. Maybe you can make dinner for your family one night or bake some baked goods that you can eat for a few days. Some of these recipes you can even write down and make your own modified cookbook that your family can use upon your return back to school in the fall.
Although many of us want to just get up and go out with our friends, it is important to remember this quarantine is in place for a reason. It helps to stop the spread of germs and can help you or your loved ones stay safe from COVID-19. While it is driving some to the point of insanity, coming up with small activities like the ones listed is a great way to get your mind off of the stress of online school and being stuck in your house for a long period of time. Take this time to become the best version of yourself instead of sulking around the house for weeks. This little self-quarantine is a great opportunity to regroup and refocus for the next couple of months to come.
