So, you saved up the money and you now want to buy a car! You are looking around at the best options available. Maybe you are thinking about getting one from a family friend, Facebook marketplace or a dealership. Comparing prices and mileage, you just seem to get a little overwhelmed. Depending on what you choose to do will affect how you experience the car buying process. It can be a lot of fun but it is also extremely stressful. Personally I felt like a fish out of water while buying my first car and it was weird. I am just going to talk about my experience and why I chose to do things the way I did.
I chose to go through a dealership to buy my car over the weekend. My boyfriend and I took a trip down to Woburn Toyota to see what I could get. The main reason I chose them is the trust I could have in my car. Woburn Toyota is a well known car dealership and they have very good reviews. I knew that I was not going to get scammed if I went there to go shopping.
What I mean by not being scammed is that I know my car would not die on me after two months because it was not properly looked at. I know that the car will pass inspection because they inspect the car before I buy it. Some of the other places I had been looking at had reviews about doctoring their cars. My mom told me what that meant because being a 19 year old, I had no idea what they were talking about. Doctoring a car is when they fix a car up just enough to not be covered by the lemon law. Another huge thing I got to avoid was the RMV.
Yup, going through a dealership means you get to skip the RMV line. You might have to wait a day or so to be able to pick your car up but on the bright side you do not have to register it yourself! I am personally not a fan of the RMV so being able to skip it is a big plus for me. I will arrive at the dealership to pick my car up and not have to worry about getting a plate made or anything of the sort. Another plus is if you come in early enough, you might even be able to leave with your car in hand.
The last thing I am going to talk about is the money. So, I wanted to get a nice car but I did not have the money for said nice car. This is another big reason I went to a dealership, because I was able to finance my car. Instead of just buying a $2,000 car that might need $2,000 worth of repairs, I chose to finance. I used the money that would have gotten me a junk car as a down payment to get myself something that would last me. Not only would this save me money in the long run, I will not have to worry about it breaking down on me. Then, the warranty I got along with my car was amazing! For an extra $20 a month I was able to add on a warranty that covers everything down to my brakes. You do not have to follow in my footsteps, but I had a very good experience shopping at Woburn Toyota.
