Beacon Update

Men’s Basketball: The University of Massachusetts Boston men’s basketball team has gotten off to a great start in their 2019 campaign. They currently sit at 5–2, with a 1–2 record in the Little East Conference. They opened the season with four straight wins, including a 99–72 rout over the College of St. Joseph’s (Vt.). They lost a couple games in a row after that, but their latest matchup resulted in a 78–64 win over Castleton University. The Beacons have a high-powered offense, as they have averaged 79.1 points per game through seven contests this season. UMass Boston’s next two home games are Dec. 11 and Dec. 14, against Emmanuel College and the Wentworth Institute of Technology respectively.
Women’s Basketball: The UMass Boston women’s basketball team could not have asked for a better start to their season. They have opened up with a 6–1 record which is good for a 0.857 winning percentage, including five straight wins to begin the year. The Beacons most recent victory came in a low-scoring affair against Castleton University. The game was tied at 46 at the end of regulation, but then UMass Boston stepped on the gas. They outscored Castleton 9–2 in the fourth quarter, giving them a 55–48 win. The Beacons next home game will be against Johnson & Wales University (R.I) on Thursday, Dec.13.
Men’s Hockey: The UMass Boston men’s hockey team has been about as dominant as possible through 11 games this season. They opened the year with seven straight wins, before they were finally defeated by Southern New Hampshire University. They are now back on a three-game winning streak, and their record now is at a comfortable 10–1, including a perfect 8–0 record in the Little East Conference. Perhaps one of their most impressive stats is that they have won all of their games by 2+ goals; the only game decided by one goal was their loss to Southern New Hampshire University (2–1). The Beacons next home game is not until Friday, Jan. 4, against Tufts University in the 54th Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament.
Women’s Hockey: The UMass Boston women’s hockey team has been very competitive to start off the 2018–2019 season as they currently have a 5–5–2 record through 12 games. Their record in the Little East Conference is 2–3–2, but they will have plenty of time to improve that. The Beacons last game resulted in a victory against Salve Regina University, 2–1. The Beacons will have to face some adversity in the coming weeks, as they have a lot of out-of-state road games against tough teams. If they can string together some wins, four of their last seven games will be here at UMass Boston. The Beacons next home game is not until Saturday, Jan. 19, against Johnson & Wales University.
