Junior outfielder Erica Sherman is known as a vocal leader by her teammates. She is always one to push her teammates to the limit and bring out their best. Last year, Sherman saw action in seven games while posting a .286 batting average. The three-time letter winner at West Haven High School also played hockey. Sherman, who loves the Red Sox and the beach, had a chance to catch up with the Mass Media to answer some questions.
How do you prepare for a game?
I listen to my iPod and sometimes go for a little jog to get my blood flowing. As a team we talk about what we need to do as a team to win, and we choose a plan of action. We pump each other up in the locker room by blasting the music, and right before our game starts we do our team chant in a huddle.
What made you decide to be an athlete at UMB?
I played sports my whole life – 3 varsity sports in high school. Softball was always my favorite and I decided to try it out. I automatically loved it because the girls I met on the team became instant friends.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of playing softball?
I love to go to the beach. I could lay there all day with a good book and not care about anything else going on around me. It’s how I relax and clear my head.
