White and proud! Say it out loud! Listen to me, friends. The university cannot stop us from forming this club, this union, nay—the movement. We have a right to get together and express our pride in our “whiteness”—a thing which we did not choose but something we were born with. What right do you have to call us racist simply because a group of white individuals decides to form up and talk about things together? The last time I checked and I check ALL the time, this was AMERICA—land of the free and the home of the brave. So today I am urging you, my brothers and sisters to be brave and stand up for what is correct. (I am beginning to cry at this point whilst writing this on my laptop—I am filled with such emotion)
In the words of Spartacus, “I have done this thing because it is just.” The university has deemed our club as inappropriate and insensitive. How? Why must we be made to feel guilty for the sins of our fathers and their fathers…and their fathers before them? It is true that the evils of racism are still very much prevalent in society today. It is true that too many people still live holding on the antiquated ideals and prejudices of a less understanding and enlightened time. But I say to you what’s love got to do with it? Is that not the right reference? What I mean to see is I am not a racist. The evils of racism are positively abhorrent to me. It sickens me to think that people can treat one another in such a despicable way. All I want to do is get together with my fellow white people and just be…white. Just enjoy white activities together, like watching Seinfeld, playing hacky sack, and posting on StuffWhitePeopleLike.com. You know what I’m saying?
There are plenty of clubs on this campus that celebrate their cultures. For example The African Student Union, Albanian Club, Casa Latina, Cape Verdean Association, Black Student Center Asian Student Center Chinese Scholar Association, Korean Students Association, Pakistani Student Association Native American Student Society, Somali Student Association, and who could forget the Turkish Student Association. Why then would the administration so callously write us off as racists? We just want to create a comfortable environment on campus for white people. I would charge that whites need a place like this as much as any other group. White people must fight a constant battle against the preconceived notions of others. We must walk a tightrope between genuinely not being racist and looking like we are just trying to not look racist. We need a place where we can escape the angry accusatory gazes of our classmates, stop feeling guilty for a minute, and just be white.
