Here is the situation: you are stuck on campus cramming for an exam or finishing a paper, and you realize that you don’t have enough time to make it home to catch the big game you were looking forward to watching all week. What do you do? Here are several options on campus where you can watch the game and finish your work:
Campus Center game room
This room is located on the UL of the campus center, right past the one stop office and to the left. There is a large TV here that gets plenty of channels for you to chose from, especially channels that show daytime worldwide soccer matches. There are also several comfortable couches that you can rest on. If that is not enough to satisfy you, there are also a few pool tables for you to use. The upside here is comfort and the downside is the fact that there may be someone already watching something else on the TV. Another drawback is that there is usually too much background noise for you to hear the TV, so watching a game can get confusing. The room is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.
Campus Center Atrium
If you look at the wall that has the entrance to the one stop and the testing center, you will see two large flat panel TVs. The one to the left shows regular TV programs. It is usually tuned into a game somewhere in the world that you may be interested in. If you would like to change the channel, you can go to the information desk in the main lobby of the UL of the campus center. The person working there can help you. In this area you can also find comfortable seating, and a convenient café that serves milkshakes and sandwiches. This spot is best in the morning, because the TVs are always turned to Sports Center, so you can catch the morning highlights if you woke up late.
In the library on a laptop
This requires you to have a service that streams live sports to you on the Internet. There are several companies that do this pretty effectively. MLB.com is one of them. They charge around $100 for an entire season depending on when you sign up. The benefit of this option is the fact that you can be almost anywhere with WiFi, which is most places on campus. My favorite place is the library because it is secluded and if you don’t have a laptop, they will loan you one. The downside here is that if you team scores the winning goal with only seconds to spare, you will have to celebrate in silence, because everyone knows that librarians are ready to throw down at any moment. It is best to stay on their good side.
At a hot chick’s house at Harbor Point
I know that this should not really count as “on campus,” but for this purpose it will. The best place to watch a live sporting event on TV, on or extremely close to campus, is on a couch in front of a 50-inch plasma screen TV next to a hot chick (or hot guy, ladies). There is no better way to watch the game here than on a comfy couch with some nice company. Also know that when I say hot chick, I am referring to any woman who will willingly let you invade her home and let you stare at men, hitting each other or hitting objects around a field for an extended period of time.
