Last week, signs littered the campus urging students to “Ask Andy.” The obscure, but seemingly ingenious campaign left students bewildered, wondering who this Andy was and what knowledge did Andy posses. The next day an email was sent out and spilt the beans on the mystery.
According to the email, Andy is a miracle child who was treated by Children’s Hospital Boston. When there was little hope left for Andy in Mexico, his family made the decision to move to Boston to seek better treatment opportunities. Andy went to Children’s Hospital and was diagnosed with a rare disease that prevented his immune system from fighting off life-threatening infections. Since his diagnosis, Andy has suffered infections in his blood, central nervous system, stomach, lungs, skin, eyes, and bones. Andy spent two years in the hospital before his baby sister, Sophia, could donate the bone marrow that would save his life. Today, Andy is a healthy boy living with his family in Boston area. His miracle story is one of millions from the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
The campaign urges students to help save lives like Andy. An event, “Dancing For Those Who Can’t” will be hosted to support such a cause. Enjoy 16 hours of fun, games, entertainment, food, and meet Andy and other miracle families. Each year the hospital treats more than 500,000 children regardless of their family’s ability to pay.
