Dear Jack and Jade,
School hasn’t even started yet and I am already feeling overwhelmed! I already know what I want to accomplish this semester. However, the more I think about it, the more anxious and frustrated I feel. I do not want to start the semester with a burden on my shoulders, but I do not know what to do!

Dear Anonymous,
I understand the burden you are feeling as the semester is about to begin. Many students feel anxious at the beginning of the school year. There’s nothing wrong with being a little anxious, but if you’re feeling overwhelmed, it could be that you are worrying too much. Though it may seem hard to do, try not to think too much about what you want to accomplish during the semester.
Try to plan out how you can achieve each goal that you have. If you want a higher GPA, you definitely have to put in the work early. If you want to network more, you have to put yourself out there and join a club.
Being anxious about something shows that you care a lot about it. But too much anxiety can be problematic. If you feel like you need to reach out to talk to someone, you can always go to the University of Massachusetts Boston counseling center. Hope you have a great semester, and you are always welcome to write back.
Yours truly,
Jade
