It is with very little surprise, but continued disappointment, that I read Of Jain-Rudivich-Higgin’s unfortunate comments regarding Motley’s candidacy for Chancellor in the March 29th edition of the Boston Globe. The accuracy of her information is not the issue here. Rather, her lack of professionalism serves to reinforce the negative legacy we carry here at the Harbor Campus. Anyone with her experience should know that the President’s office has long regarded the administration of the Harbor Campus as one of “the inmates running the assylum.” By speaking out when, and how she did, Rudivich-Higgins continues to convey that message to the higher-ups at One Beacon, and to anyone who might have read the Globe article. However well-intentioned she might have been, she has demonstrated that a serious sense of administrative organization, purpose, and procedure are still lacking on campus. Hiring from outside the internal pool would certainly seem logical to anyone who read the Globe’s piece. As the interim-director of Student Life, she has failed to see the larger picture. Her failure to think before she acted reflects badly on our administration at a time when Motley has worked tirelessly to promote “One Community.”Evidently Miss Rudivich-Higgins thinks her voice should be “The One”. Whether Motley is appointed or not,she has shot us all in the foot. Come to think of it, maybe hiring from outside the university might be a good idea…
